Walk this Way: The Broadway/Webster Project
The City of Oakland invites talented, experienced, multidisciplinary Design Teams to submit qualifications and a conceptual design approach to redesign the areas around, under and through Broadway and Webster Street underpasses of the I-880 Freeway, and to develop a toolkit of design elements that can be applied to other underpasses in Oakland. More Information can be found here.
Got an empty space or a blank wall?
Jack London is initiating a pilot project to match temporary art installations with vacancies and building walls in the District. Working with local arts groups, the District is working to bring vibrancy and beauty to empty commercial spaces, blighted areas, blank walls, and graffiti hotspots while engaging Oakland's unparalleled visual and cultural arts community.
Broadway Corridor Free Public Wifi Project
Jack London is planning to be the first neighborhood in the East Bay with free high-speed public WiFi, starting at the Broadway Corridor. Hi-tech infrastructure functions as an economic development driver with competitive advantages. Free WiFi is a significant amenity, is business and visitor-friendly, and is a potential marketing platform for the contributing business and organizations.
As part of the fiber-optic infrastructure development currently underway, building owners and tenants are bringing Gigabit-speed Internet infrastructure to their buildings. The District has a window of opportunity to leverage this investment to provide a significant public amenity.
