Board of Directors Application

Are you interested in serving on the Jack London Improvement District Board of Directors? We are seeking enthusiastic partners who will work to drive our projects and mission forward.

The Board of Directors meets on the second Wednesday of the month, once per quarter. A board member can expect to dedicate 50 hours annually, in addition to special projects and events of interest. Applications are accepted continuously. 

Board Members shall represent the diversity of the community served by the District, in particular representation of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.

Each Director must be:

  • A property owner or the nominee of a property owner within the boundaries of the Jack London Improvement District or
  • An Oakland business licensee or nominee of a business licensee within the boundaries of the district.
  • At least one Director shall be a business licensee or nominee of a business licensee within the district who is not also a property owner within the district.

Eligible applicants received as of October 15th will be considered as candidates. All eligible candidates will be brought as nominees before the Board of Directors at the annual meeting each November. Candidates will be given one minute to introduce themselves and their interest in Board membership. Candidates will be considered based on their participation in Jack London Improvement District's programs and projects and relevant expertise. Each Director shall hold office for a term of two years, and there is no limit to how many terms any individual may serve on the Board.
